A.C.S.D’s musical theater groups performed at several senior living centers this past week including a very special performance for our founder, Ms. Ann Carroll. Many thanks to director Jeanne McCollum for showing our young students how important the gift of song and dance is and that sharing your talent is the reason for all the hard work.
Ann Carroll School of Dance was recently visited by two Radio City Rockettes at our Jamison Station location. The dancers took a master class during which they learned a routine from the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The routine was complete with the Rockette signature steps including their famous kick lines! After the class, the dancers had the opportunity to ask questions about the life of a Rockette. A huge thank you to Gaylord Opryland Resort for making this amazing experience happen.
On our recent trip to Disney World, the Ann Carroll Dancers had the opportunity to take classes through the Disney Performing Arts program. The dancers took ballet, tap, jazz, audition techniques and a special workshop called “Disney Magic”. The girls learned what it takes to be a professional dancer at Disney World and on Broadway. The big finale was a performance with special guest- Goofy!
One of the great things about dancing at A.C.S.D is that one year we have an outstanding performance at Tennessee Performing Arts Center and the next year the company dancers get to perform in places like New York, L.A., or Canada for many professionals. These opportunities keep the students excited and ready to work hard to achieve their goal as a dancer. This year’s trip is to Disney World! The students will have the opportunity to take class from Disney professionals. These classes have been specially designed for the Ann Carroll dancers and will include hip hop, ballet, tap, jazz, audition techniques and performance quality. If you are a company member and want to sign up for the trip, the deadline to put down a deposit is October 1, 2012. Jody Reynard taught a master jazz class at ACSD this weekend in the style of Memphis, the musical. The dancers took an hour and a half class and then were treated to a question and answer session about being a Broadway performer. Jody is an instructor with Broadway Connection, a company that brings Broadway performers to dance studios to teach master classes and helps students experience a little taste of The Great White Way! Check on their Facebook page for a photo of Isabelle Meffe who was chosen as the Broadway Bound student from Ann Carroll School of Dance. The girls are excited to be attending Memphis this weekend at TPAC and seeing Jody’s performance. In March a performer from the musical Mary Poppins will be teaching a triple threat workshop to our younger students. If you are interested there is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.
